"Don't Get Around Much Anymore" is a jazz standard written by composer Duke Ellington. The song was originally entitled "Never No Lament" and was first recorded by Duke Ellington and his orchestra on May 4, 1940. "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" quickly became a hit after Bob Russell wrote its lyrics in 1942. Two different recordings of "Don't Get Around Much Anymore", one by The Ink Spots and the 1940 instrumental by Ellington's band, reached No. 1 on the US Billboard R&B chart in 1943. Both were top-ten pop records, along with a version by Glen Gray. The Duke Ellington version reached No. 8 on the pop chart. Who is singing the female part...you say Pam? I use to know a 'Pam' on this site...promising to marry all the men! IN HER DREAMS! She could use a 'Harvey-wallbanger'...she's a wild one, two or even three. I hate to admit it but this is a class "A" production Brad. Say, She gets around so much that she might be anywhere in Chicago every night. Follow the trail of men...BINGO! Excellent rendition, witty narrative and all is perfect. Reply: Pam is a tough act to follow when it comes to jazz and this one is no exception. She's going through some tough times and wanted to share a fun time we had in the past.
