Description: |
"Night and Day" was written by Cole Porter for the 1932 musical Gay Divorce. It is perhaps Porter's most popular contribution to the Great American Songbook and has been recorded by dozens of musicians.
Fred Astaire introduced "Night and Day" on stage. His recording of the song with the Leo Reisman orchestra was a No. 1 hit, topping the charts of the day for ten weeks. He performed it again in the 1934 film version of the show, renamed The Gay Divorcee, and it became one of his signature songs.
The song was so associated with Porter that when Hollywood filmed his life story in 1946, the movie was entitled Night and Day. |

Always the man with that 'charm' in both voice and personality. You're just great and my respect for your great talent could not be higher. I love the classics that you do perfectly...I esp. love the 30's 40'and 50's. Music was "MUSIC" then...but you're music no matter your genre'. |
Reply: You're so right about the American Songbook era music Jerry. For me the biggest difference between then and now are the lyrics. No cursing, no "ho's" and no bootys just witty, urbane lyrics with teasingly unexpected rhymes. That's what I'm talking about. I just pray it never gets "lost" Thanks so much for your awesome support Jerry You da man. Your friend and fan OoRIKoO |
