Okay here is the story, as much as I know, at present.

Karaoke Scene was hacked and a back door accessed. Someone then installed a script into the server. This script caused the server to run a constant loop that eventually caused the hard drive to burn out and crash.

We know when, what was installed and where it was installed - we do not know WHY? or WHO? We traced the IP address but unfortunately, it was bounced from one location to another. How this was done has been fixed and hopefully completely resolved.

Phill...... I so hope you'll eventually find who did it ~~ and nail their *sses to the wall.

In this case... it was a federal offense ~~

So sorry it happened.. but am very grateful that  the site is back up and running.  Thanks for all the work ya did to get it back for us.

Peter, do you have any other information on this other site. Currently I see only a main page. There is also (an informal) copyright notice on the name dating from 2003. This is a frequent attempt to back copyright a name which has not been formaly copyrighted.

I understand KS is owned by a Western (corp?) It is a shame that someone would attack KS.

I've accidently gone to that site a few times - it's been that way for a few months now and hasn't changed.

Above is the info on the domain names. The top one is owned by someone in Canada - with incomplete information The site has been "under-construction" since domain was registered in Sept. of 2003.

Karaoke Scene owns SingersShowcase.com & .net these sites have been active since December 2003. The name was registered in July of 2003. The concept for this site has been in development since June of 2001 - when I took over as webmaster.

Karaoke Scene also owns & operates several other domain names and sites.

That so totally sucks that someone would hack you...but you know what they say, people with nothing better to do... I know alot of hackers, (people who went to school with me for computer science courses.) But they usually mess with msn and microsoft deals. Anywhoo...I hope you catch the person who did it, and then find out if they have a site or somethin...then crash it! muhahahah.

Sorry to hear this :( I hope you didn't lose any data. I had my site hacked a few years back and they deleted everything...I didn't have a good backup so it took me a long time to get it back to even close to how it was.

I upgraded just before the crash happened and lost a day. Phil, if you find the guy that is responsible for what happened, let me know and I'll send him a bill lol

About 7 months ago you posted something similar Phill, following either a successful, or attempted hack. Ontario also came up at that time as well.

OK, Just dawned on me.  THIS IS the thread from 7 months ago. Fortuneately I didn't start asking Jee where he's been, and why he posted the same Joke to phill that he used 7 months ago  <ducking>
