Recently, I have been working on the members list and attempting to remove old - unused accounts and many that were strictly "Spammers."

Therefore, you may have experienced one of two things.

1) If your account did not or does not have an email address set up in your profile - your account was flagged for you to enter an email address! Once you do this - the system sends a reactivation link to that address to confirm accuracy.

If you do not receive this email - contact me and I will reset your account.

(Note: When the email is requested the system automatically removes the ability to send PMs - this is because if there isn't an email address when the system attempts to send an announcement that you have a message and it would cause an error - so in order to avoid this problem the system turns off your ability to send PMs)

2) If you have not posted in the forums over the past 365 days your account was deleted... Or will be as the system is running through the 15,000 plus membership accounts.

In order to avoid this problem as I have stated in the past is to simply make a post in one of the many forums.

I hope this helps explain some of the situations occurring -

this happened to me the other day but I guess I'm wondering if there's a "bug" in the system because I had a valid email addy on my account -it's never changed - and in fact had received a PM notification in my email just a couple hours before and always have received them there no problems?

and obviously I've posted to the forum recently?

glitch?

I dodged that bullet!

Okay so I am posting again - you can stop with the threats! LOL

Actually this happened to me as well, I am not certain but somehow my email address was not displayed in my profile when I looked I don't recall deleting it?!

Oh well, I believe it is all fixed now...

I don't ever post on this forum, but I'm a regular in SingersShowcase and my account got the chop. Was considering getting a subscription this week but if the website is this flaky, I don't think I'll chance it!

The problem is there are so many SPAMMER accounts and then some people that create an account then never use it!

It becomes ridiculous when the the administration is trying to get numbers of active members and participants - these numbers become inflated and inaccurate!

It is not the site being "Flaky" - Just the opposite being Pro-active and making certain that only those that actual participate maintain accounts.

Why have an account if you never use it?

Yes, I understand all of this from your point of view and spammers are an issue for any popular website. But from my end, I use the Singer's Showcase section of the site all the time and thought I owed it a subscription (account upgrade) as I've made many friends and I really enjoy coming on here. I came back online (after only a couple of weeks hiatus) to find that my account has been suspended, all of my comments have disappeared and all of my songs deleted. It might not be a flaky website, but there is definitely something wrong with the way that the account cull has been executed.

How do I stop this from happening again, do I have to post in this forum and not just Singer's Showcase on a regular basis? If I do purchase an account upgrade for Singer's Showcase, will I be immune from the next cull or is this also not taken into account?

Thank you
Rachel

Sorry you lost all those songs and comments Rachel.

Phill, could you please explain why it's essential to occasionally post something on KS in order to maintain an SS membership? Can't the computer system track SS activity and consider that adequate to maintain a membership? KS posters aren't required to sub a song on SS to maintain membership. I'm just posing some questions. Not trying to cause trouble. LOL I think there's still some active SS people that haven't heard about the KS participation requirement. They just haven't been on KS to read the announcements.

At the current time only the username and password are connected.

The comments, submissions and replies are separate.

I have attempted in the past to use the same system only to cause additional trouble.

I will hold off in deleting additional users/members because of the accidental deletions of some accounts - I was only trying to clean house...

I don't understand why people wouldn't join in the forums as well? Seems odd to me - but then again - my kids don't understand why I use my cellphone as a phone and not a texting device!

there's no PM method in the Showcase, and the forums is also where you set your display pic for comments.
