I have a pg-48, and a pg-58 and in a noisy bar environment I dont think you will hear that much difference. Now in a studio, You would hear some. I trashed my uhf sm-58 a while bach, and thought I would replace it with a corded one. so I went out and bought one. Not the same at all..... The preamp in the uhf wireless give it a much improved sound over the sm58 wired mic. So I bought one of the too. I also am careful who uses the wireless mics. The wired pg-48's are for the drunks.

Thought...... arent we talking about entertaining Drunks here.

Not necessarily Dr. D!! A good portion of my clientel are casual drinkers, or designated drivers!!

I also have a lot of people that come in just to see the show! Had two tables full of non-singers, just to hear the mix music. I felt bad enough for them that I played a couple regular songs for them! LOL!

the "PG" series mics are plastic handled mics and are very "Disposable'
THAT'S why they are so much inexpensive.. same shure sound.. fair karaoke sound less reliable.. I have broken 3 already. to the "slam dunk" types and srummers tho have hit the windscreens.. so i went back to the "SM" series

NOW...

The "SM" series it is the "real deal" the original 57 & 58 models from shure and last "almost" forever with exceptions in the SM-57.. and the sound quality.. well it sounds like a Shure... and the real "SM" mics are metal bodied and produced in Mexico.

what else do ya wanna know???

I was told by our knowledgeable sound tech that the PG58 had the same internals as the SM58 but had a cheaper plastic handle and thus less durable.

A few posts up the page there, someone mentioned the cost of batteries. My Audio-Technica uses 2 AA batteries instead of the 9V. I get 2+ four hour shows out of a set of 2 AA's. That's pretty inexpensive compared to 9V's. At any rate, I don't think you can beat it for a combination of price vs quality.

Ron..
ain't it amazing ::::Pulling my ego out of my back pocket:::: where today's karaoke is going to today.. and why the market is going to "pro Audio" instead of entry level?

as you can tell I'm just looking for an arguement on this one..

certain entities have fueled this discussion and it's only right they put thier reputation on the line right here here and right now.. :x

::::Tapping foot:::::

I'm waiting??? :P

Back to the cordless vs. corded issue; I went to another karaoke in a small town about 40 miles from here last night. Not to bad mouth someone else, (here's the old proverbial but) but they had a corded mic dropped out of the ceiling tiles about 5 feet from the tv. It was on a short enough cord, you could only move in about a 4 foot circle. Meanwhile, the KJ was sitting behind a desk with 2 cordless mics, but still making everyone else use the corded mic. The other issue is their music is almost exclusively one brand which I don't care for. I won't mention what brand it is because that would be unfair as its an opinion, but I don't think that particular brand sounds any where near the originals. Needless to say, it wasn't a whole lot of fun.

Ron I see I'm not exempt from the moderators even with a edited word..
real interesting.. :? It was even good enough for AOL.. wow! shocking!

ok now to your last post.. You and I discussed this place this afternoon..
Talk about pathetic huh? I know places think they can save a few bucks by doing it themselves.. but when a KJ does it for 5 bucks an hour and only has one line of CD's . ya know i have sang there befoer , and I know may people and have a few friends in thei "4 horse" town. Heck Ron, You know. The town even has a "Barny Fife" wannabe!!! Naah actually I shouldn't slam a small town because of ona bar that wants to save a few bucks.. and doesn't have a clue how to do a karaoke show properly. actually the city is a real cool town..I have done a few shows there for a good friend. and there a few really good singers there.. and another friend owns a recording studio up the highway. But Ron will agree in this case.. The bars should stick to selling drinks.. and the KJ's should do the KJ'ing. But to have cordless mics and not use them is a crime in my shows..

What I know about mics; sing into them and your voice is supposed to come outta dem speakers.....

plastic vrs metal.....a steel mic feels like the real thing....yes that does matter.....

as a proffessional karaoke singer (that's bound to create a stirrrrr), I am most concerned with sound quality, not durablity. But to be honest I do understand, guys and gals who drop, bang and abuse them are bad for business.

I like cordless cause I love to move arround...hate being teathered....

I know a KJ that duct tapes his cords so close to the monitor that movin' arround is near to impossible.....in this case I too have been know to pull on a cord or two....
