Have you ever heard the term less is more?
In my opinion, high end powered speaker systems (think QSC, Electro-Voice, etc.) do not need any additional processing. These systems offer pristine sound on their own. Anything more is overkill and a detriment to the sound quality in which these speakers were intended to produce.

That's funny! Take the onboard DSP out and those Evolve 50's would sound like crap, maybe worse! Same for any brand dependent on DSP. Why do you think E-V made no path to raw 'flat' (read:unaltered) output? Some brands let you bypass, or turn off DSP, and EQ by other means.

That said, I use Breakaway primarily for volume uniformity, which it does very well. But like any form of DSP it must be tailored to a given system.

Hardly 'flat' response lol. Nice bump the bass and treble and cuts in mids. Closest to 'flat' would be Live mode.

he's right Lonnie....
some ARE better though...

Some prefer the smiley face eq sound, while others like the more authentic sound.
even the ZLX look really flat in comparison

OMG! The frequency response on the Evolve 50 has some dips and peaks! Oh no! Send it back! It can't possibly be good!

Yeah, right!

In photography, we call people like you pixel peepers.

I don't know about you guys, but specs do not tell the whole story. If I'm going to buy a system, I'm going to buy what I think sounds good. The bottom line is the overall sound that's coming out of those speakers.

This debate has been going on in audio circles for years. Rarely will you find a speaker that's perfectly flat. Each speaker exhibits what's known as "coloration". And it's what makes each speaker sound unique. Many people choose a system because of it.

So, putting all that aside, I absolutely love the sound of the Evolve 50. It has the most beautiful crystal clear sound with clean, crisp, well defined bass that's not boomy or muddy. Seriously, the sound is just amazing for a compact, portable PA system. I do not need Breakaway or any similar enhancements on this system. Nor will it benefit from it. The Evolve 50 stands alone in sound quality.

Breakaway certainly does what it is intended to do. Why all the fuss otherwise? If people don't want to use it, then don't. I can see where some would not like to use it. I have it but rarely use it. I much prefer using the Driverack PA+ for an overall signal compression. That does a great job of blending everything together nicely. There are times I'd like to add a more live music sound to the music, and I could do that with breakaway, but I tend to think the overall signal becomes a tad too processed. It's just what I like, I guess.

I agree. Don't like it, don't use it. However also don't make claims that it's pure junk and snake oil because the user couldnt get it to do it's thing properly (most likely using a preset setting) and basically call everyones system that uses it inferior or they don't know how to adjust their board without gimmicks. A true snake oil example is the BBE Sonic Maximizer. It was proven in audio wave tests to purposely skew the bypasses frequency graph for the worse so when it's enabled it makes it sound like a miracle.

If this is true, it's surprising that no one ever filed a lawsuit against them for their shady business practices. Trying to use deceitful and fraudulent means to sell a product.

There were videos at one time that have now all oddly enough disappeared (link still exists but video taken down) showing it on a scope - quite eye opening actually. It was posted in this forum several times in early 2000's.
