Whenever I'm told that one of our regular or semi-regular patrons have a birthday within a day or two of that evening, we do two things: For a start, we ensure that person gets a birthday card which I encourage everyone present to sign... Secondly, before they can sing their requested song, I have them sing "Happy Birthday" to themselves. (Happy Birthday to Me, etc..).

Do you do anything special for known birthdays amongst your patrons?

That’s my wife’s department, my PR liaison and one-woman welcoming committee. 8)

She decorates their favorite table with colorful tablecloth, confetti, 5 balloons, a card and a gift certificate from both of us. It’s our way of giving back for their loyal patronage (regulars only).

When it’s time to sing happy birthday, my wife will ask the birthday celebrant to come up to the middle dancefloor, sit in a chair and I play “happy birthday” tune. Everybody sings while I switch all six tv’s to an image with his/her name, like below.

We do it for others as well (non-regulars). All the above, less b’day card and gift certificate.

Very classy Brian. You've given me ideas. Can I borrow your lovely bride? (Although I suppose transportation to southern Ontario might be a bit of a stumbling block. LOL)

To borrow the late Henny Youngman’s one liners: “Take my wife, please”.

My wife said to me, “For our anniversary I want to go somewhere I've never been before.”
I said, “Try the kitchen!”

I’m kidding, of course. My wife’s cooking is fit for a king.

Feel free to incorporate these ideas into yours. Thanks, Earl.

I get a pretty young crowd in mostly early 20s. I have a group of girls who done down who are really fun and easy to look at. My regulars get a very PG-13 lap dance for their birthday. Crowd loves it.

we use this screen for birthdays and have the whole bar sing the Beatles Birthday. just such a fun song for people to sing along with. we give out tambourines and shakers and everybody makes noise while we are all singing.
i like the card idea, had not thought of that. could just carry a bunch from the dollar store.

We always carry a bunch of cards from the dollar store... Birthday, Anniversary, Get Well, Sympathy, Congratulations etc. and seldom go through more than two at any given gig. That's a pretty cheap investment I believe.

At my shows when we hear that it's someone's birthday, we have the entire bar sing "Happy Birthday" to them... Plus, I have leis that I put on the Birthday person!

Of course, I announce that they've been leid on their birthday!

This is one of my gimmicks, as I wear "Aloha" (tropical print) shirts and my logo has a tiki mask!
