Hey Gang,

I also just picked up a Lexicon MPX 110 digital signal processor. I plan on using this unit in conjunction with the on-board effects provided by my Mackie CFX-12. One will be used for reverb and the other delay.

Does anyone have any tips on producing some nice vocal effects with this unit? Or can anyone share any general tips for this type of equipment?

Anything at all would be helpful. :)

Thanks again (and again, and again...)

Patrick

It's all trial & error. You are going to have to go through all the effects & listen to what they do. One setting may work for some but other systems may respond differently with unfavorable results. I use the combo delay/reverb often but I also use the chorus & flange effects for certain songs while mixing the reverb from the board as well. Play with the effects.

Ice,

The Lexicon has better sound quality than the built in effects, I'd just use that and bypass the onboard FX, but that's just me. Setting the sound is trial and error, however there are some do's and don't s that you may wanna know about.

Do

Set your delay first, than add just a little reverb (or all your singers may sound like an 80's new wave band)

Always set your FX while listening through your mains, NOT headphones.

Remember that your channel EQ section of your mixer is your best friend. No matter how good your FX may be set, if the EQ on that mic is not set right, you sound like S**T.

Do Not

Use too much reverb, the 80's are gone(unless someone sings Purple Rain). Delay is still in.

Do not use crappy mics/cables, they make all that nice gear you have worthless

Do not set the volume too high where you work/stand, your ears become numb in about 1/2 hour of uncomfortably loud music. Once your ears are numb, your sound goes to downhill; it's like a colorblind person mixing paint at Ben Moore.

Hey Teslany, what's wrong with the way I mix paint  I know what ya mean about the ears going numb, then trying to fix sounds... Just don't work. Only takes about 15-30 mins if the vol is too high.
